Best Times To Play Poker Online

Because of the vast amount of time zones around the world you will always be able to find to a game of poker online at any time.

There are however, always ‘better’ times to play then others. This article will talk about when to play in attempt to find the most profitable tables for your style of play.

(Times will be based on GMT).

Online poker 10am – 5pm.

Around this time is usually made up of mainly Europeans and generally have a high percentage of full time players. The games tend to be a lot more ‘TAG’ier then at other times of the day, which makes tracking down fish tougher, as there are fewer.

A lot of recreational players will either be at work (UK & Europe) or sleeping (US). That’s not to say that the game can’t be profitable, just a case of having to adjust or even improve to show a decent win rate at these times.

Playing poker online 5pm - 8pm.

The games are getting bigger at these times both in terms of volume of players online and the amount of recreational players (of whom we will be looking to make most of our money from by exploiting their mistakes) that have finished work and looking for a way to relax.

However, it’s also the peak time for US full time players to start and infiltrate the tables. The games will get a little more aggressive, but with the introduction of more fish, will probably become more profitable than earlier in the day.

Online poker between 8pm & 3am.

These are peak hours in the poker world and generally when most, if not all, sites see the largest volume of traffic in a day.

It does mean that there will be more sharks prowling the waters, but the number of fish will be at a high also. As a result table selection is the key here. It has been said that solid table selection and finding those weaker players can add 2-3 bb/100 onto your win rate!

Play poker online 3am – 10am.

These are generally the slowest times of day for a poker player. The games are starting to die as many recreational players start to head to bed and prepare for work the next day.

So left over we have a majority of ‘hardcore’ grinders and a mix-up of a small pool of recreational players and the occasional drunk (who can be great fun for your bankroll).

Best day to play online poker.

The best days to play are, and pretty much have always been, the weekends. This is the time of the week where people who wouldn’t normally play have some free time, so will be looking to play some poker and donate their stack to you. As far as sheer volume of players goes, the weekend will provide the largest pool of people around the clock.

Another key point to take away from this article would be the importance of table selection at any time of the day.

Don’t get lazy and just sit with whoever look around and find people who you think are weak and can exploit. This will make you the bulk of your money in the long term.
